NetScaler 13.1 End of Maintenance

Organisations running NetScaler ADC or NetScaler Gateway 13.1 need to prepare for an important lifecycle milestone. NetScaler 13.1 reaches End of Maintenance (EOM) on 15 September 2026, with End of Life currently scheduled for 15 September 2027

NetScaler appliances often provide access to essential applications, remote-working services and authentication systems. Delaying action until a fault or security incident occurs could turn a manageable upgrade into an urgent business-critical problem.

What Does NetScaler 13.1 End of Maintenance Mean?

End of Maintenance does not mean that your NetScaler appliance will suddenly stop working. It means that NetScaler 13.1 will no longer receive code-level maintenance after the EOM date. Under the Citrix Product Lifecycle Support Policy, code-level maintenance includes product-code changes normally delivered through software updates or upgrades.

Support may still help troubleshoot an issue, recommend configuration changes or direct you to an existing fix. However, if resolving the problem requires new code, you may be required to move to a supported NetScaler release. The official NetScaler ADC firmware release-cycle guidance lists 15 September 2026 as the EOM date and 15 September 2027 as the EOL date for NetScaler 13.1.

It is also important not to confuse the ADC firmware with NetScaler Console. NetScaler Console on-premises 13.1 reached both EOM and EOL on 15 April 2026 and should already be part of your upgrade and licensing review.

Why Does NetScaler 13.1 EOM Matter?

Continuing to run an EOM release creates several risks:

  • New software defects may not receive a code-level fix.
  • Future application, browser and authentication changes may cause compatibility problems.
  • Security and vulnerability management may become more difficult.
  • Unsupported software can raise concerns during compliance audits and cyber-insurance reviews.
  • An emergency upgrade may become necessary if a serious issue affects production.

EOM does not make NetScaler 13.1 insecure overnight, but the ability to maintain and support the platform becomes increasingly limited. For an internet-facing system handling sensitive traffic, that risk should be addressed proactively.

What Should NetScaler 13.1 Customers Do Now?

Begin by identifying every NetScaler component in your environment. Record appliance models, deployment types, firmware builds, high-availability relationships, NetScaler Console versions, licensing arrangements and application dependencies.

Next, assess whether your hardware, configuration and licences support the proposed target release. NetScaler licensing has changed, including the move away from legacy file-based licensing, so licensing compatibility must be reviewed before upgrading.

Your technical assessment should examine:

  • Gateway and authentication configurations
  • Load balancing and content switching
  • SSL certificates, profiles and cipher settings
  • Web Application Firewall policies
  • Rewrite and responder policies
  • GSLB and high-availability configurations
  • Deprecated features and third-party integrations

Create a tested migration plan covering backups, pre-upgrade health checks, the supported upgrade path, application testing, failover sequencing, rollback procedures and post-upgrade validation. NetScaler 14.1 may be an appropriate destination for many environments, but the correct target depends on your hardware, requirements and licensing.

What If You Have a NetScaler 13.1 Issue?

If you experience a problem, document the firmware build, appliance type, affected services, error messages, recent changes and business impact. Preserve relevant logs and confirm that current backups and rollback points are available.

Avoid making an untested production change unless the incident requires immediate action. Authentication, Gateway, HA and GSLB configurations can have complex dependencies, and a rushed upgrade may introduce additional disruption.

Enterprise Solutions’ NetScaler experts can help diagnose the issue and determine whether the safest response is a configuration change, an available fix, a temporary workaround or a planned migration.

Take Action Before EOM Becomes an Emergency

Do not wait for an incident to expose gaps in your NetScaler environment. Enterprise Solutions can assess your current deployment, identify lifecycle and security risks, review licensing and compatibility, and create a practical migration roadmap.
