Citrix LTSR 2607: What It Means and How to Prepare
Citrix LTSR 2607 is here. If your organisation relies on Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, this release is an opportunity to review how people sign in, join Microsoft Teams meetings and connect from their devices. It also brings decisions that are easier to make before an upgrade than during one.
What is Citrix LTSR 2607? LTSR stands for Long Term Service Release. It gives organisations a release path designed for predictable maintenance. Citrix has published LTSR 2607 documentation for both Virtual Apps and Desktops and the Windows Workspace app. Those are distinct components, so your upgrade plan should identify which versions you run across the full environment. A successful rollout depends on more than updating a server or installing a new app on a laptop. Citrix’s 2607 release notes outline the platform changes.
Three areas to check before you upgrade to Citrix LTSR 2607
1. Sign-on and identity. Microsoft Entra single sign-on is generally available in LTSR 2607 for supported Entra hybrid joined session hosts. For some organisations, this creates an opportunity to simplify an authentication path that uses Citrix Federated Authentication Service (FAS). It does not mean every FAS deployment should be removed. First, confirm how your hosts are joined, which sign-in methods your users need and whether the proposed approach works throughout their sessions. Test with a small group before changing production authentication. Citrix’s 2607 documentation describes the new availability.
2. Microsoft Teams in virtual desktops. Organisations using the older WebRTC-based Citrix HDX optimisation for Teams on Windows endpoints face a separate deadline. Citrix states that support ends on 1 October 2026 and availability ends on 1 April 2027. Citrix recommends moving to Microsoft’s new VDI solution for Teams. Check your endpoint and VDA versions, the Teams VDI plugin, and how audio, video and screen sharing behave in real meetings. The stated deadlines do not apply to macOS, Linux, ChromeOS or HTML5 endpoints. Citrix explains the Teams optimisation options and deadlines.
3. Windows endpoint architecture. Citrix Workspace app LTSR 2607 for Windows is the final LTSR with a 32-bit version. Citrix says LTSR 2707 will offer 64-bit and ARM64 versions only. That makes now a useful time to inventory older devices and third-party virtual channel add-ons. An incompatible 32-bit add-on can block an automatic move to the 64-bit app or stop working after an upgrade. Citrix’s Workspace app guidance sets out the transition and compatibility checks.
What should you do if you find an issue?
Start by recording the affected users, devices and applications. Note your Workspace app and VDA versions, when the problem began, and whether it affects sign-in, Teams, printing or another function. Ask affected users to contact your IT helpdesk; administrators can then compare the symptoms with Citrix’s known issues and test a fix with a limited group. If a Teams call is unoptimised or a Workspace app update is blocked, establish the cause before expanding the rollout.
A readiness assessment turns those checks into a practical upgrade plan. Enterprise Solutions’ free Citrix LTSR 2607 readiness assessment reviews core Citrix components, Entra SSO and FAS, Teams optimisation, 32-bit endpoints and plugins, and infrastructure dependencies. You receive a readiness status, the risks that need attention and a recommended phased path to 2607.
